Testimonials

Our designer was very helpful! I appreciated her insight and that she actually gave me ideas in our initial meeting. Other places did not tell me anything, just came and looked around. She did a wonderful job planning our yard and placing the plants meticulously. I really liked her artistic composition to the design project, she had good insights as well that were quite intuitive. I look forward to seeing my plants bloom throughout the year! I finally have a space I can enjoy, thank you!

  • Why do you need my budget amount?
We need to know your budget in order to best serve you. Many people go into design uninformed about the cost of plants & labor, they have high expectations with little to spend. We do our best to accommodate everyone as we want to make your yard beautiful so you can enjoy it. By giving us the amount you are able to spend, we can figure out what were able to do for you without wasting anyones time.
  • What is the average cost of a design project?
Every project varies, there are many different factors that contribute to average cost such as your property size, yard(s), the type of work that will be done, what you are wanting/needing. Homeowners are suggested to spend 10% of their homes value on their landscapes. Landscape design can boost your homes value by 15% or more! Plus you have space you can enjoy and relax.
  • I want low maintenance plants that requires no water, is that possible?
This is a common desire in design. While it's an understandable hope in the desert, it's not practical. All plants require water, even cactus. Many people think they can purchase desert safe plants, put them in the ground and just let them survive on their own. This is not practical because we do not get a consistent amount of water for them to survive after being in the nursery where they received a constant amount of care, water, and nutrients. Our seasons change so often, we can't be for certain how much water we will get each summer. Even plants such as cactus, will require supplemental water. Expect to give supplemental water for 1-2 years depending on the plant, the amount of care it needs, conditions of the soil, environment, and other factors. Some plants may always require supplemental water. It is recommended to have a drip irrigation installed, especially if you are only here part of the year. Many snow birds leave and come back to find their garden did not survive the summer. Summer months are a critical time for plant care, they require more water in the coolest parts of the day/night and sometimes need shade covers or mulch to protect from the sun. If you want low maintenance plants, our designer will help you as best as possible to match your needs but know that most plants do require maintenance from time to time such as pruning, disease care, nutrients, and transplant/removal of suckers, pups, and dead/diseased items. Native species have the best rate of survival, while you may have to make compromises you will get the most out of them. If you are unable to provide care and maintenance for your plants, we offer regular maintenance to keep your landscape looking beautiful.
  • How much are design consultations?
Design consultation start at $85 an hour. You will meet with both our designer and landscaper.
  • How does the design process work?
Typically the design process starts with a phone call or email with our designer to answer some questions and see if design is right for you. Next we schedule an onsite consultation, during this visit we will get a feel for your space, hear what your goals are and get more in depth information about you and your home to best assist you. Our designer will ask questions about your yard and its everyday use; if you have pets, kids, gatherings, etc. We may even tour the interior of your home to get a clearer view from inside what your yard needs and how it looks from your windows. During this meeting we will take measurements and may draw out a rough sketch while onsite. Our designer will also share expertise and pitch you some initial ideas, you two can brainstorm together then we will tell you the possible design cost for your project. If you choose to go with us we will email you information about your project and ask for your deposit. Once the deposit is received our designer will begin work on your project. The designer will be your project manager for the whole process.
  • Do you offer installation of a design I already purchased?
Often times we can, if there are no other design requirements we will provide you with the installation of your design. Often times clients go to different designers and can't make up their mind. They want us to go through another designers plan and make changes, this can be complicated depending on the circumstances, as well its not fair to our designer who may have an entirely different creative view point, or may need to examine the design and yard to see if it will actually work. It could end up costing you another design fee. Online designs require further examination, see the Q&A below.
  • I purchased a design online, will it work for my yard?
Many people purchase designs online from designers all over the world. It's important to realize that desert landscapes are very different from anywhere else in the world. Designers who don't have any experience working with local plants in this environment may not understand our unique eco-system and plants needs. Many clients purchase online designs from other sources and find that they do not work for their desert landscape - - even when they have desert plants in the design. It's imperative to have a designer who can do an on-site visit. Each yard is so unique and varies, especially in our desert landscapes. Without an onsite visit, online designers are missing out on vital clues to proper design and placement. Such as water runoff, soil type, root systems, irrigation, local wildlife, foundations, and structures. Without this, many online designs will not work and could end up causing damage and more money in the long run. It's important to have a local designer who understands the native landscape and can survey your property in person. A local, trained designer can recognize your topography, the way the water flows on your property, the critters you have in your yard, each homes unique microclimate, and the flow of your space. All while getting to know you to have your design tailored to you personally.
